It’s TFQ Architects 30th Birthday, after the three founding partners John Thorn, Kevin Flowers and Simon Quick started the architects practice on 1st November 1994. Due to the early 90’s recession, and having not been paid for 6 months, the three architects decided if not getting paid by their employer Lucas Roberts & Brown, they might as well not get paid working for themselves!
Setting themselves up in the historic building Hems Court in Longbrook Street, Exeter and above Harry’s Restaurant which became a regular venue, their first projects were a residential estate of 63 houses in Feniton for Millwood Homes and extending and refurbishing Jacobstowe Manor for Noel Edmonds, which provided the base for a successful start in business, and within a few years TFQ Architects took over their old practice.
After 11 years TFQ Architects moved to their current offices overlooking the River Exe on the outskirts of Topsham, where they have continued to provide quality architectural services throughout the south west and working on almost 2,000 projects primarily in residential, commercial and education sectors and including conservation work on listed buildings.
To celebrate 30 years of TFQ architects, we will be highlighting a single project from each year over the next 30 days, and for some fun we will be picking one lucky person from over on our instagram page on the ‘page likes’ to receive a £100 voucher, with a runner up to receive a £50 voucher, for Harry’s Restaurant as the original ‘TFQ canteen’! The more ‘likes’ the more chances of winning!
As a starter, and without any project reference, we have the three founding partners, with their neighbouring structural engineers Ryan, Rogers and Redstone enjoying the first of many long Christmas lunches at Harrys, where the restaurant was closed for the afternoon and lunch would continue until the evening diners arrived. Spot the sole remaining founder of TFQ Architects, with darker and slightly longer hair!
