TFQ were appointed on this project to provide initial pre-application design services in coordination with planning consultants for a site in Exbourne, West Devon.
The site consisted of gently sloping pastures and is located near conservation areas, meaning that any Planning Application would need to be justifiable and appropriate given the properties’ immediate surroundings. Great consideration had to be given to the massing, layout and amenity space provided to each property, whilst balancing this with ensuring sufficient accommodation is provided to make the development economically viable.
TFQ then produced scheme options and with close liaison with our client, submitted a successful Planning Application for the development of 9 dwellings. As shown in the concept sketches, the designs were traditional, understated and complimented the rural location, utilising a variety of materials from red brick to timbers and renders, it created an eclectic mix of properties which further enhanced the ‘feel’ of the site with the use of this farmyard/courtyard style principle.
