Residential re-development of a redundant holiday caravan park located within the defined built up area for Watchet, which is a harbour side town on the northern coast of Somerset.
The residential development by Regal Heritage provides a mixed development of 37 dwellings with eleven 2 and 3 bedroom houses, ten 4 bedroom town houses set in two terraces with undercroft garaging, and sixteen 1 and 2 bedroom flats.
The layout has been devised to respect and compliment the existing adjacent street scene and frontages to West Street, with the houses and flats facing onto this main road and within the site having steeply pitched roofs, with many dormers and gables, set over traditional brick and render walling, with some self coloured Eternit weather boarded elevations to provide variation and interest.
The new boundary walling to the widened West Street is in random local stone facing, with the wall set ‘battered-back’ in traditional style, and with hedge screening planted along the top.
The development has been designed to have traditional aesthetics, but with a more contemporary feel to the individual properties, so it provides the desired level of accommodation to meet current market demands and still provide an interesting rural vernacular development for Watchet.
